Aquino declares war on water lilies; Pimentel dares Aquino to buckle down to work

President Benigno Aquino III, fondly called “totoy” by some pundits, knew that the SWS survey will hit the headlines of several newspapers a few days ago. That’s why he suddenly felt the urge to go to Maguindanao and take a look at the situation there.

When he went there and saw an army of water hyacinths barring the natural water flow of the Rio Grande de Mindanao, he immediately ordered a war against war lilies. Yep, that’s right—a Head of State declaring war not against the Chinese military who continues to occupy six of seven Philippine claimed islands in the Spratlys–but against water lilies. Wow.

Such a ridiculous thing for a Chief Executive to declare war on a hapless plant who just want to survive. What Aquino failed to consider is, the people there have been fighting these water lilies all their lives and fact is, this problem has been there for over a month now. And now, look at our Chief Executive wasting executive time, trying to get some pogi points for declaring war on some hapless plant.

The Maguindanaoans expect some form of relief assistance but all they got was the President’s declaration. Wow. The President claims to have given the Maguindanaoans and the Cotabato residents about 7 million pesos worth of relief goods. Where are they now? Dunno says Mangundadatu.

Former Senator Aquilino Pimentel says that now is the time for Noynoy to work. He wasted one year already. These things would have been prevented had his Cabinet secretaries briefed the President on these things. Sadly, Aquino seemed to have lost the patience needed for somebody of his stature.
