Pnoy's Independence Speech: All rhetoric, says Lagman

Congressman Edcel Lagman says that President Benigno Aquino’s Independence Day speech is all hogwash. How can he cleanse the government of greed and corruption when he peopled the bureaucracy of his relatives, classmates and shooting buddies? Catholic bishops have advised the president of having the will of telling his close associates to resign if involved in controversies and issues.

Several of his most trusted men, including shooting buddies DILG undersecretary Rico Puno and DOTC Assistant secretary Virgie Torres have shot themselves in the mouth. Customs chief Angelito Alvarez continues to perpetuate graft and corruption at his agency, while others are reportedly earning so much money from illicit deals.

The President vowed to fight graft in his term. Sectors are saying that he must also address corporate greed and corruption, which had worsened. This is evident when oil companies had raised their pump prices. The government must investigate these companies who are abusing the law and oppressing the people.
