Carlos Slim Helu, the world’s top billionaire, is willing to bet his US$ 65 million just to see Filipino champion and the world’s Pound-for-Pound boxer Manny Pacquiao fight top Mexican boxing phenomenon WBC light middle weight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
And Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s boxing promoter likes what he hears. He calls Slim’s bet.
Slim reportedly negotiated with Pacquiao’s camp for this fight. The 66 year old widower wants to see Pacquiao fight it all out with the 20-year old Alvarez, one of the fastest rising boxing superstar in Mexico.
The only problem is, Pacquiao is set to fight Juan Manuel Marquez first. If Pacquiao survives the Marquez bout, then, brace yourself because Pacquiao will definitely fight Alvarez.
Pacquiao has never fought in Mexico. Yes, he’s reputed to be the Mexican destroyer. Pacquiao however vanquished his opponents in the United States, never in Mexico.
Slim reportedly is doing the offer just to satisfy calls by Mexicans for Pacquiao to fight Mexicans in their turf. As things progress, there is a very strong possibility that the Pacman, will, fight in Mexico.
If this pushes thru, this will be the biggest fight purse ever by the Pacman.
Will this fight with Alvarez break the Pacman’s winning streak? We shall see.
