Okey, here’s what Vice President Jejomar Binay gave as a solution to the decades-old problem of the Marcos burial.
Binay proposes that the state must give full military honors to former strongman Ferdinand Marcos and lay him to rest not at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, but, at his ancestral house in Paoay, Ilocos Norte. And it seems that the son and namesake of the former president is amenable to the compromise.
The question really is: what is the full military honors for?
Is it a recognition of Marcos as a former guerilla officer, who claims to have been given medals for his heroism during World War two? Or, a recognition of Marcos as a former president of the Republic?
There is no clear cut answer to this coming from Binay.
If we recognize the bravery of Marcos as a war-hero, then, we must give him the honor of being buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, since this the traditional resting place of most World War two heroes.
But if we will give him full military honors, for being a former Commander-in-Chief or Chief Executive, then, we recognize everyhing that we believed about him–including him being a war hero.
Binay’s solution is quite contentious to say the least. It did not give the proper answer.
Binay should explain what is the full military honors for.
