The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday released a pastoral letter lambasting the Aquino administration for not working to make those promises a reality. Priests used the letter in castigating the president for unfulfilled promises to the poor.
The CBCP also criticized the President for blaming other people for the current economic woes. The Church advises the president to stick his guns at alleviating the worsening situation on the ground.
The speech came after a release of an SWS survey showing a decline in the number of Filipinos still optimistic about the local economy. Poverty incidence also increased substantially since Aquino took office.
Many sectors believe that Aquino is just using the issue of the Office of the Ombudsman to deflect his failures on both the economic and governance fronts. There has been no visible program of action implemented by Aquino since about eleven months ago.
Businessmen are commenting that Aquino is an absence president. He seems not really suited for the job, according to some highly placed sources in the business community.
