Pilar Pilapil’s horrific experience at the hands of would-be slayers a few days ago signals how desperate people are. Worse, people are not just getting what they want–they are harming people in the process.
Pilar, and her niece Rosel were in their own car, a Kia Carnival, when two men just suddenly got in. Inside, the men just took turns harming, stabbing and shouting at Pilar. The men ordered the hapless women to go to Antipolo. There, at Barangay San Luis, Pilar’s bloodied body was dumped.
Fortunately for Pilar, she was still able to call for help. She was rushed to the Antipolo City General Hospital for treatment of her stab wounds. She was later transferred to Medical City.
What is very unfortunate in this case is the fact that it occured not in the dead of the night, but in full daylight. Marikina City used to be a safe place to go. Yet, as circumstances suggest, even that place has been infested by criminal elements.
This is very harrowing to say the least because it shows how defenseless anybody is right now against criminal elements. This is another blackeye for the police. That despite the surveillance cameras all throughout the Metro and the visibility campaigns, the Metro remains extremely dangerous.
People are hungry. People are desperate. And in these desperate times, anything goes.
